Track Progress Over Time
Tracking progress keeps you accountable and helps your manager support you. Here's how to use Mentora to monitor progress.
Daily: Check Your Dashboard
Every day or every few days:
- Log into Mentora
- Go to your Dashboard
- Review:
- Upcoming Deadlines — What's due this week?
- Recent Activity — What changed recently?
- Stats — How many goals are in progress?
This takes 2 minutes and keeps you focused.
Weekly: Update Task Status
Once a week (Monday or Friday):
- Go to Tasks
- Review your tasks for the week
- Update status:
- Tasks you completed → Mark Done
- Tasks you started → Mark In Progress
- Tasks you're reviewing → Mark In Review
- New tasks → Mark TODO
Your goal progress updates automatically as you complete tasks.
Bi-Weekly: Update Milestone Status
Every 2 weeks:
- Go to Milestones
- For milestones coming due or recently completed:
- If you're on track → Keep status as In Progress
- If you completed it → Change to Completed
- If you're falling behind → Change to In Progress and comment with context
Step 3: Leave a comment if status changed:
"On track for March 15 delivery. Just started the final testing phase."
Monthly: Review Goals
Once a month:
Go to Goals
For each goal, review:
- Progress — Is the percentage accurate?
- Status — Still on track? At risk?
- Next milestone — What's coming up?
Update goal status if needed:
- On track and making good progress → On Track
- Getting behind schedule → At Risk
- Recently completed → Achieved
For Managers: Monthly Team Review
Once a month, review your whole team:
Go to Team Page (or Dashboard Team Overview)
Look at each person:
- How many active goals?
- What's the average progress?
- Who's at risk?
- Who's making great progress?
For anyone at risk, leave a comment:
"I see this goal is at risk. Let's talk through what's blocking you. I want to help."
- For anyone making great progress, celebrate:
"Fantastic work on hitting that milestone! Really impressed."
Quarterly: Reflect and Adjust
Every 3 months:
Review the past quarter's activity in the Audit Log
Ask yourself:
- Did I make progress toward my vision?
- What goals are still relevant?
- What needs to change?
Adjust your roadmap:
- Complete goals that are done
- Extend timelines for goals that slipped
- Add new goals based on what you've learned
- Delete goals that no longer make sense
Schedule a career conversation with your manager to discuss
Tips
- Update consistently — Weekly updates are better than monthly catch-up craze
- Be honest about status — If you're behind, flag it early so your manager can help
- Celebrate progress — Comment when you hit milestones to keep momentum
- Look for patterns — If goals keep slipping, maybe your timeline was too ambitious
Troubleshooting
My progress hasn't updated
Goal progress is calculated from completed tasks. Make sure tasks are marked as Done. Try refreshing (F5).
I'm falling behind on multiple goals
That's a sign to talk to your manager. Comment on the goals flagging them as at risk, and ask for help prioritizing.
I don't know if I'm making enough progress
Compare your progress to your timeline. If you're 3 months in and the goal is 12 months, you should be roughly 25% done. If you're behind, adjust or ask for support.
